About the IEU Tas

The Independent Education Union Tasmania (IEU Tas) was founded as the Tasmanain Catholic Education Employees Association (TCEEA) in December 1983 and is a branch of the Independent Education Union of Australia.

Membership of the IEUTAS is open to all teachers and school support employees working in Catholic Education in Tasmania.

We represent Teachers at kindergarten, primary, secondary and senior secondary level, Librarians, library Technicians, Library Aides, Teacher Aides, Maintenance Staff, Clerical Staff, Secretarial Staff, Administrative Staff, School Counsellors, Tuck Shop Staff, Clothing Store Staff, Information Technology Employees, Laboratory Technicians, Education Officers, Laboratory Aides and Trainees. We are truely an industry union.

The IEU Tas works to protect and advance the professional and industrial interests of Catholic School Staff.

• We negotiate awards and enterprise agreements covering wages and conditions with Catholic Education Empolyers
• We represent the professional, educational and funding interests of members in various forums - including government committees and inquiries
• We represent members on individual issues including representation in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission and the Workers Compensation Tribuneral
• We provide information to members about their employment rights and obligations
• We conduct research to enable us to effictively represent members in policy forums
• We provide members with a range of services on favourable terms

The IEU Tas offers members the following free advisory services:

• Workers Compensation advice
• Legal advice
• Superannuation advice
• Maternity and Long Service Leave advice
