Benefits of Belonging

You can protect what you have won

A strong union collective can stop employers from attacking terms and conditions of employment.

You get better terms and conditions

Your union is constantly working through negotiation to improve the working conditions of its members.

You are healthier and safer

Your union has an important part to play in monitoring adherence to Occupational health and safety matters. We can give advice and assistance with any OHS matter.

When the going gets tough ....

Union members get active. Support for workplace problems, collective agreements, information is only a phone call or mouse click away.

Collective benefits

Your union has negotiated a large number of discounts and benefits that can give members access to discounts and free services. A visit to the web site or a chat with your delegate can detail these for you.

You get a say

Through collective bargaining all members have a say in identifying workplace issues and their solutions. Non-members are not part of this process and as individuals have little or no influence over working conditions.

You have bargaining power

Bargaining collectively creates one voice that is stronger than a large number of lone voices. This is why employers for unions such as the Tasmanian chamber of commerce and industry.

You can change things for the better

Unions work for change with other unions, the community and government. This is how union members can have input into education policy.

You are supported

There are always other members, delegates, elected officials and paid officials who can help if you have problems with your employer or with bargaining or if you just need information.
